CHICAGO — Some Red Green, Pink and Orange line trains will be rerouted or suspended over the weekend as the CTA does track maintenance and continues to work on the new Cermak-McCormick Place station, the agency said.

Orange and Pink line trains in the Loop will operate counterclockwise due to track maintenance. Passengers shoudl board Orange and Pink line trains from the Brown Line platforms.

From 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted from the State Street subway to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown for maintenance work. During the work, northbound Red Line service will not be affected, according to the CTA.

During the maintenance work, CTA is encouraging riders to plan extra travel time throughout the weekend.

Rerouted southbound Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt.

Customers traveling southbound to downtown on the Red Line can exit any elevated station along Lake or Wabash. Customers requiring access to an elevator will need to exit at Clark /Lake.

Customers traveling southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains traveling on the elevated tracks.

Also this weekend, construction on the new Cermak-McCormick Place station will temporarily suspend Green Line service between Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations, according to the CTA.

Trains will not be running from 1:40-11:40 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. During this time, the CTA will provide riders with free shuttle service and transfers to the affected stations but urged riders to build in extra travel time.

Additional work is scheduled from 1:40 a.m. Jan. 24 through 4 a.m. Jan. 26.

The $50 million project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The new Cermak-McCormick Place station will have enclosed platforms, elevators and bike racks and will help riders get around more easily, according to the release.

Red and Green line service will be restored by the Monday morning commute, the CTA said.
