COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An Englewood man accused of fatally shooting his friend during a Dec. 23 dice game was held without bail Thursday.

Prosecutors said Thomas Porter, 19, was playing dice with several longtime friends when he pointed a gun at 20-year-old Trevon Williams and shot him once in the chest.

Porter ran off and Williams was pronounced dead on the scene in the 7800 block of South Lowe Avenue, police said.

Authorities didn't specify what prompted the shooting.

Three witnesses told police they heard a gunshot and saw Porter pointing a gun he'd been carrying toward Williams, who was laying on the floor with a gunshot wound in his chest, Assistant State's Attorney Akash Vyas said in court Thursday.

Police issued a warrant for Porter, who lives in the 7300 block of South Paulina Street. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Porter held without bail.
