CHICAGO — Two men were shot — one fatally — in separate shootings in the West Side Thursday night, police said.

At 8:45 p.m. in Lawndale, a 51-year-old man was in the 1200 block of South Albany Avenue when he was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Pacheco said.

He has been identified as Chinedu Madu, 51, of the 500 block of East 33rd Place, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Madu was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m., the morgue said.

No one is in custody, and police are investigating.

At 8:10 p.m. in West Garfield Park, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 4000 block of West Carroll Avenue. A man got out of a dark minivan and opened fire, striking the 27-year-old in his neck, Pacheco said.

The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, Pacheco said.
