CHINATOWN — An 18-year-old woman is hospitalized in critical condition after she was struck by a car, authorities said.

The accident took place about 1 p.m. Monday in the 2200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, the epicenter of the neighborhood's restaurants and gift shops.

The unidentified woman was rushed to Stroger Hospital, said Officer Tom Sweeney, a police spokesman. She remains in critical condition, Sweeney said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman remained on the scene after the crash. Traffic tickets are pending, Sweeney said.
