Someone is Stealing Car Wheels in Beverly: Police

By Alex Parker | December 27, 2014 1:25pm | Updated on December 29, 2014 8:29am

CHICAGO — Police say someone is using a hydraulic jack to lift up cars in Beverly and steal wheels — including some during the day.

At least five similar thefts occurred in the neighborhood on Dec. 9, 10 and 17, police said in a community alert.

Each time, the suspect used a jack to lift the car, removing the car's wheels and leaving it on cinder blocks, police said.

Three of the thefts occurred during the day near Metra tracks while the cars' owners were at work, police said. Police did not specify where or when the thefts took place.

The other two thefts occurred at night in the 9900 block of South Western Avenue and the 11000 block of South Campbell Avenue. Police did not say when the thefts occurred.

Police said two suspects were arrested for a similar theft in the 9400 block of South Damen Avenue on Dec. 5. They were driving a purple Monte Carlo, and police said the car may have been involved in the recent thefts.

Anyone with information can call Area South property crimes officers at 312-747-8273.
