CHICAGO — A 44-year-old man was shot and killed during an apparent robbery in West Englewood Sunday, police said.

The man was with another man in the 7200 block of South Hermitage Avenue when they were approached by at least one other person, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The suspect fired shots, striking the victim in his head.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Sweeney said.

The man was identified as Miguel Haro, 44, of Cicero. He was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said the shooting took place during a robbery.

Community activist Andrew Holmes said the dead man was a father of three and was working with three men installing drywall trying to rehab a home before the shooting happened.

Holmes believed the man did not speak English well and was confused until he saw the gun. He encouraged the community to give police any surveillance video they may have that could be helpful.

"It doesn't make any sense when you have people coming into build up the community and rehab this structure and someone comes up an announces a robbery. We want these individuals brought to justice," Holmes said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
