HYDE PARK — The Rev. Jesse Jackson will be the keynote speaker for the 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at the University of Chicago on Jan. 15.

Jackson will speak at 6 p.m. at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on “What Does Justice Look Like?”

The speech by Jackson, who worked with King on Operation Breadbasket while studying at the Chicago Theological Seminary in Hyde Park, will kick off a week of events memorializing the life of the civil rights leader.

The speech at the chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave., is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. A community reception with Jackson will follow at Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St.

Glenda Hatchett, a former Georgia state judge, attorney for Delta and star of the television show “Judge Hatchett,” will also speak as part of the week’s events at noon Jan. 2 in Room P-117 at 5841 S. Maryland Ave.

The university’s day of service will be Jan. 17, an event where more than 250 university students, faculty and employees volunteer at community nonprofits.
