CHICAGO — A man was killed after being shot Monday in Englewood, police said.

At 11:40 a.m., an 18-year-old man was walking in the 5800 block of South Morgan Street when a dark red van pulled up and several shots were fired from inside, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The van then fled the scene.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Lemmon said. He was later pronounced dead.

He has been identified as Shamar Thomas, of the 5500 block of South Morgan Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m., according to the morgue.

According to police, the man is a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, and police are investigating, Lemmon said.
