Burglars Cut Holes in Austin Business Floors, Ceilings: Police

CHICAGO — Burglars cut holes in the ceilings and floors of Austin businesses to enter them and steal, according to police.

Police warned Austin residents and business owners of the thefts in a community alert Sunday.

In the burglaries, a person or people forced their way into an apartment above or below a business and cut holes in the floor or ceiling to get into the store. They then lifted items from the business, according to the alert.

The burlgaries occurred between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m. between on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 in the 5500 block of West Van Buren Street, between 9:30 p.m. and 8:25 a.m. on Nov. 29 or 30 in the 1000 block of North Cicero Avenue and between 9:30 p.m. and 9:25 a.m. on Dec. 10 or 11 in the 5400 block of West Harrison Street, police said.
