CHICAGO — A 14-year-old girl was critically injured after being hit by a car Saturday in South Austin, police said.

At 3:55 p.m., the girl was tying her shoe in a parking lot in the 4800 block of West Jackson Boulevard when she was hit by a 2005 Chevy Trail Blazer, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The girl was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is listed in critical condition, Sedevic said.

The driver, Carlos Anderson, 45, of the 900 block of Cedar Avenue in Elgin was cited for not exercising "due care" with a pedestrian in the roadway, police said.
