CHICAGO — Police say a 9-year-old boy was shot Saturday morning on the Near West Side.

The boy was shot in the 2300 block of West Adams Street, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman. He was standing outside when someone fired shots, hitting him in the leg.

The boy was walking with his father when someone opened fire at a black four-door sedan, police said. Police said the boy was not the intended target of the shooting.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

The shooter fled scene. Authorities believe the shooting is gang related.

No one is in custody, and Area Central detectives are investigating.
