Loyola Student Shot Near Campus Among Three Dead, Four Injured Friday

CHICAGO — A Loyola University student from Pakistan was one of three killed and four wounded in shootings Friday.

The student, Mutahir Rauf, 23, was fatally shot about 7:50 p.m. during a robbery attempt when he mistook a gun for a toy during a robbery, police said.

Around 7:20 p.m., a 25-year-old man was found in his parked car shot multiple times in West Garfield Park, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Officers found the man in the 300 block of South Kildare Avenue and he was transferred from there to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He was shot in his neck, hand and cheek, Estrada said.

A 26-year-old man was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 400 block of East 71st Street about 7:430 p.m. by a man, who appeared from an alley, Estrada said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

A 17-year-old boy was shot while crossing a street in Grand Crossing Friday night.

At 6:43 p.m., the boy was in the 7400 block of South Kimbark Avenue when he was struck in the buttocks, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Two hours earlier on the Far South Side, a shooting left a man dead and another wounded, police said.

Around 9 a.m. Friday, a man was fatally shot in South Shore, police said.
