UPTOWN— What better way to celebrate Friday's Repeal Day — the anniversary of the day more than 80 years ago when the 21st Amendment was ratified and Prohibition was scrapped — than take a journey to one of Al Capone's old haunts?

The notorious gangster was said to frequent the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, which landed on Foursquare's list of the top 15 best historic bars in which to celebrate Repeal Day.

Foursquare, which is a "local search and discovery service mobile app," compiled a list of 15 of the nation's most historic bars from the Prohibition era. Uptown's Green Mill and Andersonville's Simon's Tavern were the only Chicago bars to make the cut.

Jackie Kostek outlines the places to be in Chicago on "Repeal Day."

The list described the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway, as the place where the infamous mobsters used to hang out.

"You won't run into any organized crime bosses these days, but you also won't find any drink menus...so know what you want to order," read the news release.

Simon's Tavern, a Swedish dive bar at 5210 N. Clark St., opened as a speakeasy during prohibition. Its bar is modeled after the S.S. Normandie, "one of the era's finest ocean liners."
