CHICAGO — A man shot his girlfriend and then shot himself to death in a domestic-related shooting at the Downtown Nordstorm on Black Friday, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the busy department store at State and Grand, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The gunman, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Marcus Dee, 31, shot his 22-year-old girlfriend, a seasonal employee at Nordstrom. Then, he turned the gun on himself.

The woman survived, but is in critical condition after being taken to nearby Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

According to the Sun-Times, court records show that victim had petitioned to have a temporary restraining order issued against Dee for stalking. Last April, that petition was denied by a Cook County judge, court records show.

At the time of the shooting the store was crowded with shoppers, but employees rushed them out when shots rang out, resulting in panic and chaos, according to the Tribune.

There were no other threats to any customers or employees, Pacheco said, adding that the incident remains an active investigation.

On Facebook, Nordstrom offered prayers to the woman and her family:

"As we're sending our thoughts and prayers to our employee and her family, we are also thinking about everyone who has been affected by this tragedy; particularly all of our employees in the store and customers who were shopping with us at the time. We are so grateful to those people who stepped in to assist in the store during this situation."

The Downtown store will remain closed on Saturday, according to a sign posted to the door of the department store.

"Due to the tragic situation that occurred in our store yesterday, our store is closed today, Saturday, November 29th," the sign read.
