THE LOOP — Four Macy's employees were hospitalized Friday morning following a cooking mishap in a demonstration kitchen at the State Street store, fire officials said.

While employees were cooking pancakes in State Street store's lower level before the store's 10 a.m. opening, an aerosol can ruptured, injuring four, a Macy's spokeswoman said.

They were taken to a hospital. By 4 p.m. Friday, three had already been released. The extent of the injuries was not disclosed.

No customers were injured in the accident, and the store, the former flagship Marshall Field's, was not damaged.

The store was cited for "improper storage and use of butane," fire officials said.
