HYDE PARK — Sweets shop Amy's Candy Bar has embarked on a six-month stint in Hyde Park, and it's bringing some new candy with it.

The shop at 1546 E. 55th St., which has its grand opening Friday, is stocked with new varieties of the handmade confections sold at the original Amy's in Lincoln Square, including meringues, dark chocolate-sea salt almond toffee and dark chocolate-dipped orange peel.

The candy pop-up is one in a rotating lineup of boutiques from other neighborhoods taking up temporary residence in University of Chicago-owned storefronts.

"If the community supports the store and we deem the pop-up a success, we will look into a more permanent lease," owner Amy Hansen said.

Hansen, a French Pastry School graduate, put out a call on social media that she is hiring for the pop-up. She said she has hired two applicants from the community and is looking to hire two more.

Amy's Candy Bar is known for its assortment of retro sweets, piled into very retro apothecary jars, imported treats such as the very British Curly Wurly candy bars and handmade caramels. Oh, and the OMG bar.

The pop-up in the Hyde Park Shopping Center is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. It will be there through April.
