Boy Dead, Five Injured in Overnight Shootings

CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was killed and five men were hospitalized by shootings Friday night into Saturday morning.

The fatal shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. Friday night in South Deering, police said.

The most recent shooting happened around 5:50 a.m. in South Austin, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 40-year-old man was in the 4900 block of West Fulton Street when someone shot him three times in the abdomen. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Sedevic said.

Around 3 a.m., a 19-year-old man was walking in the 5800 block of South Ada Street in Englewood when a man got out of the car he was driving and opened fire. The victim was struck in his stomach and taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shooting, which appears to be gang related, Sedevic said.

Around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old man was shot in Little Village. The man was in the 2400 block of South Washtenaw Avenue when another man approached him and flashed gang signs before opening fire, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, Sedevic said. No one is in custody for the shooting, which appears to be gang related, Sedevic said.

Around 9:15 p.m. Friday, an 18-year-old man was shot in his arm when sitting in a parked car in the 7000 block of South Ada Street in Englewood. The driver of the car took the man to the 7100 block of South Loomis Street before notifying police, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition. No one is in custody for the shooting, Sedevic said.

A 25-year-old man was shot in Calumet Heights around 7:45 p.m. Friday. The man was driving in a car in the 1800 block of East 95th Street when someone in a passing car opened fire, Sedevic said.

The 25-year-old man crashed the car after being struck in his chest, arm and back and taken to Christ in critical condition.

No one is in custody for the shooting, which appears to be gang related, Sedevic said.
