Man Shot to Death in South Chicago

CHICAGO — A 39-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in South Chicago Thursday morning, authorities said.

Joseph Lewis, of the 7600 block of South Essex Avenue, was standing in the 7900 block of South Essex Avenue about 2:40 Thursday morning when someone opened fire, hitting him multiple times, police said.

Lewis' friends took him to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:27 a.m. An autopsy determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

No one is in custody and Area South detectives are investigating.
