CHICAGO — A Belmont Gardens man has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence after striking and killing a woman in Portage Park Tuesday night.
Maciej Machniewicz, 45, of the 4400 block of West Barry Avenue, was charged with one count of aggravated DUI, two counts of DUI and one count and not having a driver's license.
The incident happened in the 5900 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to a police statement.
Around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Machniewicz was driving southbound on Austin Avenue when he abruptly turned eastbound on Belmont and hit a car driving southbound, according to police.
The southbound car hit another car, while Machniewicz's car hit a traffic box, a light pole, a fence and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old woman, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.
Machniewicz was due in bond court Thursday.
