CHICAGO — A 0.3-acre expansion of Eugene Field Park was approved by the City Council on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the city announced plans to expand the 12-acre park with the addition of three city-owned lots along the Chicago River's North Branch.

The city bought the three Albany Park lots with $130,000 in Open Space Impact Fees, which are collected from new residential developments and used to help increase the amount of open space in neighborhoods.

The city plans to transfer the three lots to the Chicago Park District for $1 each.

The park district plans to add natural-looking landscaping, fences and lights along the river.
