GOLD COAST — The Latin School of Chicago boys golf team finished sixth (648) at the IHSA Class 2A state tournament Oct. 17-18 at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University.

It was the Romans' first trip to the state finals since 2011, when they placed 11th.

Latin's Knox Montgomery had the team's top individual showing after carding rounds of 79 and 74 to finish 11th overall. Joey Sallerson (82/80) finished in 40th place, while Danny DeGraff (84/81) was in 59th. Will Vander Weele (86/83) finished in 75th place, Luke Chandra (85/88) finished in 89th place, and Eric Andresen (97/91) finished in 107th place to round out the Romans' scoring.

Twelve teams participated in the team finals. Morton won the team title (615), while Glenbard South (622) and Galesburg (624) finished in second and third place, respectively. Morton's Tommy Kuhl (142) won the individual crown, beating Galesburg's Jackson Wetherbee by a stroke for the championship.

Latin was the only Chicago-based school to finish in the top nine places in any of the three-class IHSA state finals.
