UPTOWN — Bragging rights and a plaque are on the line for Buena Park neighbors at next week’s annual Buena Pumpkins trick or treating event.

In the spirit of Halloween, organizers of the event will be passing on the George Farak award to the neighbor with the best decorated house.

Gene Tenner, who’s a board member of Buena Park Neighbors, said the award is named after a spirited former resident who was instrumental in creating the event and an “avid backer.”

Tenner said most families decorate their homes with the standard Halloween lot: spiders, goblins and pumpkins. Trick or treaters especially appreciate when families use smoke machines, Tenner said.

Parts of North Kenmore Avenue and West Buena Avenue will be blocked off for next Friday’s event — which runs from 6-8:30 p.m. in Buena Circle Park at 1049 W. Buena Ave. Tenner said families will meet in the park and trick or treat down a stretch of Kenmore Avenue.

“It’s a defined area, so we know the neighbors up and down the street,” Tenner said. “We know that nobody will get something bad in their sack.”
