ENGLEWOOD — A free, outdoor event this weekend hosted by a nonprofit is being billed as an alternative Halloween party.

The "Harvest Fest" runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Peace Garden, 6400 S. Honore St., and is sponsored by I Grow Chicago. Free children's coats, food and activities, such as face painting, will be given away, said Tameka Lawson, executive director of the nonprofit.

"The purpose of the event is to allow for a safe and healthy alternative to Halloween for children and our neighbors, and of course to celebrate fall," Lawson said. "Last year's event we had 336 people that attended and we gave away over 700 coats."
