PORTAGE PARK — The members of the Chicago Riots Junior Roller Derby team might not be afraid to hit like a ton of bricks in the rink — but they can also make a mean chocolate chip cookie.

To raise money to buy jerseys for the 17-member team, coach Lyn Hooley will host an old-fashioned bake sale at her store, Replica Chicago from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

The 12- to 17-year-old girls — who play full contact roller derby — plan to bake up a storm of cookies, pies and breads to raise money for the team, which recently ended its season with a game in Indianapolis.

"They can pretty much hold their own against adults," said Hooley, a.k.a Scream Printer, who is a member of the Chicago Outfit Roller Derby adult league.

Heather Cherone says it's a rough-and-tumble league:

Items for sale at Replica Chicago, 4425 N. Milwaukee Ave., will include vegan and gluten-free goodies, Hooley said.

At Replica Chicago, Hooley makes a variety of items, such as T-shirts and coasters, for Chicagophiles.

A special coffee blend by Perkolator, dubbed Riots Blend, will be available at the sale.

Perkolator, a cafe in the Irving Austin Business District, will also sponsor the team's annual coffee fundraiser in November and December.

The team, which plays in Oak Park, is always looking for new members, Hooley said.
