ENGLEWOOD — A community forum will be held to get feedback from residents about how to combat violence in Englewood.

The forum runs from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Peace Community Center, 6455 S. Peoria Ave., and is sponsored by the nonprofit Teamwork Englewood and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Crime data and the effects of violence on Englewood residents will also be discussed at the forum, said Perry Gunn, executive director of Team Englewood.

"When a community is plagued by violence it has a domino effect on the area and that is what will discuss at the meeting," Gunn said. "Crime affects more than families it also affects the local economy, schools and employment."

Participants will be broken into small groups to come up with violence prevention ideas and then present their solutions to a panel of community leaders.

"I have invited all the aldermen who represent Englewood to attend. They need to hear from their constituents on this matter," he added.

Englewood is represented by Aldermen Pat Dowell (3rd), Roderick Sawyer (6th), Toni Foulkes (15th), JoAnn Thompson (16th), Latasha Thomas (17th), and Willie Cochran (20th).

Free child care and refreshments will be available along with a raffle for Walgreens gift cards.
