EDGEBROOK — A path under the Metra tracks at Lehigh, Hiawatha and Kinzua avenues that is now home to a painted and mosaic mural needs some help getting ready for cold weather, organizers said.

From 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4, volunteers are set to rake, water, plan, clean and mow the underpass and the area around it, said members of the Neighborhood Connection Project team, which has been working since 2010 to turn what was once a crumbling, graffiti-covered disgrace into a landmark depicting the area's history and lush vegetation.

The third and final phase of the mural along the eastern side of underpass linking Edgebrook, Wildwood and North Edgebrook is scheduled for summer 2015.

Mural volunteers are partnering with members of Park Community Church in Edgebrook for the cleanup. For more information, email kciarrachi@parkcommunitychurch.org.
