Boy, 16, Girl, 15, Among At Least Six Wounded in Shootings Since Thursday

CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was critically injured and at least six others were wounded in separate shootings on the South and West sides since Thursday afternoon. 

Around 4:42 p.m. Thursday, the boy and a 15-year-old girl were in the first block of West Marquette Road in Englewood when a man walked up to them and opened fire, striking the boy in his chest and the girl in her arm and shoulder, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. 

The shooter then fled, Pacheco added.

Both teens are Dunbar Career Academy High School students, according to a report by the Tribune

The boy in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, Pacheco said, while the girl's condition had stabilized at Comer Children's Hospital.

Police said the boy is a documented gang member. 

• The most recent shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 5800 block of South Sangamon Avenue in Englewood, according to police.

A man, 23, was sitting on a porch when he heard shots and felt pain, Pacheco said.

He sustained a gunshot wound in his thigh, and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in stable condition, Pacheco said.

Police said the victim has documented gang ties.

No one is in custody.

• Around 10 p.m., a man was shot in Lawndale.

The man, 28, was inside a store in the 3700 block of West 16th Street when someone fired shots, hitting him in his wrist and leg and grazing his head, Pacheco said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Pacheco said.

A person of interest is being questioned for the shooting, she added.

• Around the same time two men were shot in West Englewood.

The men, ages 26 and 21, were driving in the 1900 block of West 64th Street when they heard shots and felt pain, Pacheco said.

Both of the men were shot in the back; they drove themselves to St. Bernard Hospital where they were treated and released, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody.

• Around two hours earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 200 block of North Homan Avenue in East Garfield Park, police said.

The teen was walking when he heard shots and felt pain, Pacheco said.

He is in stable condition after being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Pacheco said.

Police said the teen is a documented gang member.

No one is in custody.
