STREETERVILLE — A parking space at the corner of Ohio and St. Clair streets won't be available for cars or motorcycles on Friday — instead it will house a park, complete with benches, "bags" games, live music and real grass.

The pop-up park is the neighborhood's effort to participate in International PARK(ing) Day, a global initiative every year on the third Friday in September meant to transform parking spaces into greenspace.

"We're promoting more open space, more greenspace, and less vehicles," said Gail Spreen, president of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents, which organized the park's set-up.

Organization reps and community volunteers will be on hand at the park all day Friday, hosting free games, live music and entertainment — and feeding the meter every few hours.

They set up a tent over sod they laid down on the street.
