CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man died after he was shot in Lawndale Sunday afternoon, police said.

Around 2 p.m., a man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West 16th Street when someone opened fire from a passing gray minivan, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest and later pronounced dead, she said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Charles Labon of the 1900 block of South St. Louis Avenue.

No one is in custody for the shooting, which police believe is gang-related, Sedevic said.
