Teen Charged in Rape of Pregnant Woman in Roseland

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy from the Far South Side has been charged in the rape of a pregnant woman in Roseland this week.

Police on Saturday said the teen was identified as the person responsible for sexually assaulting a 24-year-old women at knifepoint, then locking her inside a car trunk in the  9800 block of South Indiana Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Chicago police were aided by Chicago State University staff, which helped canvass the area and retrieve witness accounts and video surveillance.

The teen has been charged as an adult with aggravated criminal sexual assualt with a weapon, aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery. He is expected in court Sunday.

Police said the woman was walking to her car Wednesday afternoon when a man approached her near East 98th Street and South Indiana Avenue, according to a police statement.

The man, armed with a knife, forced the woman into her car. He made her drive to a nearby alley, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

The man then locked the woman inside the trunk of her car and fled.
