At Least Five Wounded in Separate Shootings Since Wednesday Evening

CHICAGO — Five people were wounded in separate shootings on the South and West sides of the city since Wednesday evening, police said.

Most recently, a 24-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards around 8:30 a.m.

Someone shot the man in the 700 block of West 50th Place, striking him in his buttocks, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital and was listed in stable condition, Estrada said.

No other details surrounding this shooting were immediately available.

No one is in custody.

• Around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old man was shot on the Lower West Side near Pilsen.

Someone opened fire from a passing dark-colored car in the 1700 block of West 17th Street, striking the man in his right leg, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He was taken to University of Illinois Medical Center where he is in good condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody.

• A couple of hours earlier, a man was seriously injured in a North Lawndale shooting.

Around 8 p.m., two people walked up to the man, 23, in the 1200 block of South Albany Avenue and opened fire, striking him in his back, Sedevic said.

Described as "very uncooperative," the man was transported to Stroger Hospital where he is in serious condition, Sedevic said. 

No one is in custody.

• Around 7:15 p.m., two 17-year-olds were shot in South Chicago.

A man came out of an alley in the 8900 block of South Houston Avenue and fired shots, striking a 17-year-old boy in his chest and stomach and a 17-year-old-girl in both of her legs, Sedevic said.

The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he is in critical condition, while the girl is in stable condition at Northwestern Hospital, Sedevic said.

Police said the teen is a documented gang member. 

No one is in custody.
