NORTH PARK — Back in days of yore, there were no grocery stores in Chicago, or anywhere for that matter, but the area was hardly a food desert.

People ate plants.

Historian Sandy Miller will take folks back in time to the 1700s during a talk Thursday at the North Park Village Nature Center, relating how early inhabitants of what's now Chicago relied on native plants for food and medicine.

Miller is also president of the Lake-to-Prairie chapter of Wild Ones, a non-profit organization that promotes the use of native plant in landscapes.

Her talk is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. at the center, 5801 N. Pulaski Road. Registration is required by calling 312-744-5472.
