LINCOLN SQUARE — The new YOUmedia center at Sulzer Regional Library is bound to widen the digital divide ... between teens and adults.

The library and studio space, specifically designed for adolescents ages 14-18, is equipped with all the tools needed to develop and hone skills in areas such as digital design, video and music production, animation, robotics, 3-D printing and computer programming.

YOUmedia's gadgetry and services, which emphasize the use of technology to make and create versus passive consumption, will be on display during an open house from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the library, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave.

As part of the launch event, members of Best Buy's "Geek Squad" will help familiarize teens with the available technology through hands-on activities.

Sulzer is the third YOUmedia teen location within the Chicago Public Library system, in addition to four YOUmedia middle school sites.

Use of the digital media lab is free with a valid Chicago Public Library card and high school ID. Mentors will provide ongoing assistance to teens as they continue their march toward world domination.
