HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference is offering to pick up books from Hyde Parkers' homes in its search for donations for its annual book sale.

The conference is asking for donations now for the sale that typically puts more than 30,000 titles up for sale Oct. 11-13 at the Hyde Park Shopping Center.

The conference is accepting books on any subject — except encyclopedias and old issues of National Geographic — on the lower level of Treasure Island, 1526 E. 55th St.

For those unable to get their old books to the drop-off point, the conference can arrange to come get them. To set up a pick-up, call 773-288-8343 with an estimate of how many books are available.

After the sale, leftover books are donated to schools, churches and other institutions in need.

The event is the major fundraiser for the conference, which supports education programs in the schools, homeowner resources, historic preservation and other causes in Hyde Park and Kenwood.
