BUCKTOWN — A game shop that has been tucked along Armitage Avenue in Bucktown is planning to open its second store on Madison Street in the West Loop.

Linda Schmidt, owner of the 6-year-old Cat and Mouse Game Store, broke news of the expansion earlier this week in an e-newsletter titled, "Big news!"

"We’ll be right in the center of great food and cute shops, wonderful schools and parks, and a host of companies such as Threadless and Google," Schmidt wrote of the new outpost at 1112 W. Madison St., which is several blocks east of the United Center.

The current shop at 2212 W. Armitage Ave. sells a variety of games, puzzles and toys and holds yo-yo classes and game nights.

For the new shop, the owners plan to apply for a special license that will enable it to offer drop-off activities for families that are home schooling their children or for parents that want to bring their kids to a game night while they go out for the evening.

Known for her colorful newsletters, which are archived on Cat and Mouse Game Store's website, the online updates add a personal flair.

In July, Schmidt reviewed a strategy game called Hive that also wove in the real-life story of flying ants that she was dealing with in her home.
