One Dead, Two Wounded at Backyard Party in Austin

CHICAGO — A shooting at a backyard party near Lafolette Park in Austin left a 33-year-old man and two other men in their 30s hospitalized early Sunday.

The three men were at a party in the 5000 block of West Potomac Avenue when an unknown man on foot opened fired around 1:56 a.m. Sunday morning. A 33-year-old man was unresponsive at the scene after being shot in his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was identified as Andre Byrd, of the 7800 block of South Constance Avenue in South Shore, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 36-year-old man was also shot in his back. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. A 35-year-old man was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition stabilized after being struck in his hip, elbow and torso, Pacheco sad.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
