Boy, 3, Shot in Head in West Garfield Park Home

CHICAGO — A 3-year-old boy was shot in his head Friday night after he mishandled a gun in West Garfield Park, police said.

The boy and a friend were playing inside a home in the 4300 block of West Monroe Street about 7:30 p.m. when they discovered the gun.  The boy was accidentally shot, police said. More details were not available about how the boy was shot.

The boy was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and is now in critical condition, police said.

No weapon was recovered but, the man, who owns the gun is being sought by police, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
