EDGEWATER — The unnamed park tucked between North Sheridan Road and the bend of Lake Shore Drive will get a complete overhaul — and a new spray pool, officials said.

Renovations, including new play equipment, a small plaza and new pavement for sidewalks, should begin in the fall, said Jessica Maxey-Faulkner, a Chicago Park District spokeswoman.

The project is part of 103 neighborhood playgrounds that will be built or refurbished in 2014. Under a program called Chicago Plays!, the park district will rebuild or refurbish 325 playgrounds over the next five years.

While the exact cost of the new playground rebuild in Edgewater wasn't immediately available, the program uses $125,000 at each playground in an overall $37.5 million effort, according to the mayor's office.
