Man Fatally Shot a Block From Police Headquaters

CHICAGO — A man was fatally shot in Bronzeville, one block east of Chicago Police Department headquarters late Friday night, authorities said.

The man, 25, was in the 3400 block of South Indiana Avenue about 11:35 p.m. when someone approached on foot and fired shots, striking him in his abdomen, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

Police found the man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Walter Neely, unresponsive on the sidewalk, and he was later pronounced dead, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Police Department spokeswoman.

Neely was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:55 p.m.
