WASHINGTON PARK — The 85th annual Bud Billiken Parade, the South Side's annual back-to-school parade designed to showcase youth, drew tens of thousands to Bronzeville and Washington Park Saturday.

While flipping burgers and hanging out with family and friends, those who came out witnessed a wide array of attractions, everything from youth drill team performances to organizations protesting neighborhood violence.

The parade was marred by the shooting of two people after an argument near the 4200 block of South King Drive.

While photos and videos don't capture the pervasive smell of home-cooked barbecue, here's a glimpse into this year's event:

"We know how to jerk it!" said Walter Travan, 50, of his barbecued jerk chicken moments before this video was taken.

Fans of the South Shore High School drill team chant in support.

This is just one example of many drum acts at the parade this year.

Ladies of the Queen Kinkade Drum Line busted a move early on.
