CHICAGO — Cyclists are invited to cruise the 25th Ward in the first-ever "Night Ride" hosted by Ald. Danny Solis.

The ride begins 7 p.m. Saturday at the plaza outside Benito Juarez Community Academy with a bike check-in and checkup by volunteers from Working Bikes. At 8 p.m. cyclists begin riding through Pilsen, up to Little Italy and over to Chinatown before returning to Pilsen's Dvorak Park for refreshments. (Map here)

"The whole idea is to have riders come out and night ride, but also it's about encouraging people to stop along the local businesses along 18th Street. ... We're going to see how this goes to possibly expand it in the coming years," said ward office community liaison Lauro Roman.

The ride is hosted in conjunction with Ciclovamos and the Active Transportation Alliance with help from the Chain Link online cycling community, Roman said.
