CHICAGO — ArrowStream CEO Steven LaVoie, who was shot Downtown last week by an employee who reportedly was demoted, remains in critical but stable condition, the company said in a statement issued this week, adding that reports it was downsizing were "erroneous."

LaVoie was shot in the head and stomach Thursday morning, allegedly by former company executive Tony DeFrances, who had been demoted about a week before the incident. DeFrances fatally shot himself in the head.

"It's an isolated workplace incident based upon a demotion from a downsizing of a corporation," Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said at the time.

But in a Facebook posting Wednesday, ArrowStream issued an update where it said the company had been going through an "exciting" period with growth.

"Contrary to erroneous reports, we have not been reducing our workforce or downsizing in any way," according to the update.

McCarthy shared information based on the investigation, Chicago Police spokesman Martin Maloney said in a statement Wednesday.

"The Superintendent relayed the information detectives gathered during the course of their investigation," Maloney said.

Jody LaVoie, the wife of CEO Steven LaVoie, has been named acting CEO while an interim CEO is sought to take over during Steven LaVoie's recovery.

"If you were to walk through our office this week, you would see an ArrowStream family coming together, supporting one another, but also, remarkably, you would see a team even more energized to continue the work that Steven and Jody started," according to the update.

A company spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
