Lollapalooza Travel Guide: CTA Increases Rides, Extends Hours for Weekend

CHICAGO — CTA service will be extended to accommodate Lollapalooza fans over the weekend.

The weekend music fest runs Friday to Sunday in Grant Park and brings thousands of concert-goers to the city. The Saturday Chicago Bears Family Fest at Soldier Field is also expected to bring additional traffic downtown.

The CTA advised those using public transportation to plan for extra travel time.

Blue Line

  • Friday: Longer trains will run to downtown until 11 p.m. Trains will operate about every eight minutes 7-11 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Longer trains will run 1:30-11:30 p.m.

Brown Line

  • Friday: Longer trains will run until 11 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Longer trains will run noon-11 p.m.

Green Line

  • Friday: Longer trains will run from Harlem/Lake until 10 p.m. and from 63rd/Cottage until 11 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Longer trains will run from Harlem/Lake 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and from 63rd/Cottage 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Orange Line

  • Friday: Longer trains will run until 10:45 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Longer trains will run 10 a.m.-10:45 p.m.

Red Line

  • Friday: Longer trains will run about every six minutes 6 p.m.-midnight
  • Saturday and Sunday: Longer trains will run until 1 a.m., and trains will run about every six minutes 6:30-11:30 p.m.

Yellow Line

  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Trains will run from Howard until 1 a.m.

Buses

  • The northbound No. 2 Hyde Park Express, No. 6 Jackson Park Express, No. 10 Museum of Science and Industry, No. J14 Jeffrey Jump and No. 26 South Shore Express buses will travel their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt and will then run along Roosevelt, Michigan to Balboa before resuming their usual routes. Southbound rides on those buses are traveling the reverse routes.
  • The eastbound No. 7 Harrison, No. 126 Jackson and No. 143 Stockton/Michigan Express buses and southbound No. 147 bus will not serve the Congress circle. Those buses will travel their usual routes along Michigan to Harrison before turning to follow the route in reverse.
  • The westbound No. 7, No. 126 and No. 143 buses will start their routes from Harrison and Wabash, travel south on Wabash to Balbo and then run from Balbo and Michigan to continue north past Congress.
  • The northbound No. 147 Outer Drive Express bus will begin its trips from Harrison and Wabash and travel west on Harrison to State Street. The bus will then run north on State past Congress.
  • Additional service will be available on the No. 146 Innder Drive/Michigan Express and No. 130 Museum Campus bus routes beginning at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday for the Chicago Bears Family Fest.

Street Closures

Until Wednesday, the following streets are closed due to preparation and cleanup of Lollapalooza:

  • Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe
  • Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive
  • Congress Parkway between Columbus and Michigan
  • Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive
  • Congress Plaza
