GLADSTONE PARK — The Technicolor classic "The Wizard of Oz" will light up the night sky at Gladstone Park Wednesday as part of the Chicago Park District's Movies in the Parks series.

Starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, "The Wizard of Oz" — released in 1939 at the height of what is now considered Hollywood's Golden Age — has become one of the most-loved musical films and an indelible part of popular culture.

Also Wednesday, the 1982 classic "E.T." will be shown at Portage Park. Starring Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore and Peter Coyote, the Steven Spielberg film tells the story of a troubled child who helps a cute alien return to his extraterrestrial home.

Moviegoers can bring a blanket, a picnic basket and their little dogs, too, to watch current and classic flicks for free during the series.
