CHICAGO — Morgan Park-based Jackie Robinson West could represent Chicago in the upcoming Little League World Series after falling a win short a year ago.
The group of 11- and 12-year-old ballplayers won the Illinois title on Sunday in Manteno and advanced to the Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Indianapolis. The victor at the Great Lakes Regional, which runs Saturday through Aug. 9, qualifies for the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennslyvania.
Jackie Robinson West is the last Chicago team to reach Little League's promised land, when its club lost in the first round of the 1983 Little League World Series.
Jackie Robinson West's first game at the Great Lakes Regional is against Burlington, the Wisconsin champions, on Saturday at Little League's Central Region Headquarters' field, 9802 E. Little League Drive.
