Five Wounded in South, West Side Shootings

CHICAGO — Five men were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The most recent shooting occurred around 4:45 p.m. Sunday in the 3600 block of South Rhodes in Bronzeville. A 23-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.

In Back of the Yards, a 30-year-old man was shot about 4 p.m. Sunday when a car pulled up next to him and someone inside fired. The man, who was walking in the 1900 block of West 48th Street, was hit in the stomach, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

About 1:45 p.m., the 6800 block of South May in Englewood, a 28-year-old man was shot in the leg, police said. He took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. No more information was available.

In Lawndale, a 53-year-old man was shot in the left foot in the 4000 block of West Lexington Avenue about 12:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating.

A man was shot during a robbery Saturday evening in Lawndale.

The man, 36, was at a gas station talking to a girl in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard around 8:45 p.m., according to Officer Ronald Gaines, a police spokesman. 

Two people approached them, one of them with a handgun, announcing a robbery. The man attempted to knock the weapon away, but was shot in his abdomen, Gaines said.

The man drove himself to the nearest exit ramp when authorities arrived at the scene and took him to Stroger Hospital, Gaines said.

No one is in custody for this shooting.
