RAVENSWOOD MANOR — As neighborhoods in Chicago go, Ravenswood Manor is a fairly sleepy residential enclave — with a notable exception.

Manor Avenue, often used as a cut-through between Lawrence and Montrose, has been singled out by residents as a traffic trouble spot.

The 33rd Ward's Transportation Advisory Committee has been exploring options to make the street safer for pedestrians and cyclists. First step: A tour of North Center's Berteau Greenway has been organized to explore an example of a solution that might work for Manor.

Neighbors interested in learning more about greenways are invited to join the tour at 9 a.m. Saturday at Berteau and Clark streets.

Representatives from the Chicago Department of Transportation and members of the advisory committee will be on hand to talk about the approach taken with Berteau — including traffic circles, pedestrian refuge islands and a "contra-flow" bike lane — and discuss how a similar remedy could be applied to Manor.

After visiting Berteau, the tour will regroup in Ravenswood Manor for a look at Manor Avenue.

The Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at First Slice Pie Cafe, 4664 N. Manor Ave., after the tour for further discussion. All are welcome.
