NORTH PARK — Members of the community are being asked to help put the finishing touches on Hollywood Park's new playground.

A volunteer brigade is needed to spread tons of fibar wood chips, which will form the playground's surface, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, 3312 W. Thorndale Ave.

Participants must be at least 18 years old and come prepared to either shuttle wood chips via wheelbarrow or spread using rakes. Closed toe shoes are a must.

Hollywood Park is one of 103 playgrounds being renovated in 2014 as part of the Chicago Plays! program.

Unlike typical playground renovations — in which the Chicago Park District foots a third of the bill, with the remainder split between the alderman's office and private interests such as park advisory councils — Chicago Plays! picks up the entire tab, courtesy of the Park District's capital budget.
