Taxi Passenger Robbing Cabbies, Police Say

CHICAGO — Police say a man is robbing taxi drivers on the South Side.

In two instances this month and last, a man hailed a cab and, upon completion of the ride, held a gun to the driver, demanding money and a cellphone.

The incidents occurred June 14 at about 3:40 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Michigan Avenue and July 2 at about 2:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of South Michigan Avenue.

Police said descriptions of the man vary, but he is generally described as a black man, 20 to 29, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, weighing 160-170 pounds.
