CHICAGO — Homeowners who have seen a significant drop in their property values can get answers about possibly refinancing their home at a program set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Woodson Regional Library, 9529 S. Halsted St.
Mel Watt, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and other experts will meet with community leaders in a town-hall meeting to talk about the Home Affordable Refinance Program in an effort to reach eligible families.
HARP was created in 2009 by the agency and the U.S. Department of Treasury to create refinancing opportunities for homeowners. About 36,000 homeowners in the Chicago area are eligible for the program, officials estimated.
Over 3.1 million people had refinanced through the program nationwide through April.
